Local action groups in the fisheries sector are responsible for developing and implementing participatory local development strategies (FDPs).

For the implementation of participatory local development strategies, grants may be granted to operations with the following objectives:

a) Value enhancement, job creation, attracting young people and promoting innovation at all stages of the supply chain of fishery and aquaculture products;

b) Support for diversification within or outside the commercial fisheries sector, lifelong learning and job creation in fishing and aquaculture areas;

c) Promotion and exploitation of the environmental heritage of fishing and aquaculture areas, including climate change mitigation operations;

d) Promotion of social welfare and cultural heritage of fisheries and aquaculture areas, including fisheries, aquaculture and maritime cultural heritage; 

e) Strengthening the role of fishing communities in local development and governance of fisheries resources and local maritime activities.
